Day 1 Sept 12 2020 Celina

Sept 12

Travel Day 1

Home to Celina OH 120 miles

Dianne was eager to get moving this morning as she was out of bed before the alarm went off.  So I got up as well.  Had a quick shower and then made coffee and started my exercises for my shoulder.  Loaded the scooter and we were off by 8:30.

The selected route took us through Anderson, Muncie Fort Recover,  Coldwater OH and Celina as our Final stop.  There are a lot of really big homes on the back roads outside of Anderson.

Anderson was good except google maps kept trying to put us onto a bike trail.  We ended riding right through Anderson University and that was interesting it is a bigger school than I thought it was.  Muncie was easier to navigate we saw Minnetrisa gardens.  We saw the home of Francis Ball the hero of Canning he developed the Ball canning bottles with the help Ball

State University.

Fort Recovery was important during the Indian wars of 1794.  It all started with a loss by St. Clair who was killed in an earlier battle.  Then during  the renovation  a British and Indian force was defeated there by Wayne Anthony.

NOTE the sign over her head.

Celina is on the Northwest shore of Grand Lake St. Mary.  Originally located close to gas and oil deposits and later manufacturing sites.  Today is quite little town with recreational  sites and limited amount of manufacturing.

To fill in time I count stuff so here are the results.

  • 2 beer cans. (good indication at least that the back roads are clean and people are not littering)
  • 165+ corn fields and 138+ soy fields, 4 fields had been harvested plus 115 silo (indication of importance of farming), 1 sorghum field and 1 Christmas tree farm
  • 1 liquid egg processing plant and 1 corn mill plant
  • passed only 5 churches that I saw
  • Had 4 hour of riding back roads seeing only 7 cars
  • saw 12 grain trucks and 17 dump truck.  Did not count transport because they were on the 4 lanes and was busy staying out of their way.
  • 8 hawks, 5 turkey buzzards, 2 horses, 3 road kills
  • 3 butterflies
  • 7 bugs hits on my face
  • 12 railroad crossing and 30 bridges over rivers.

Well that is about it for the day have fun stay safe.

PS Dianne did have a DQ hit today so no withdrawal symptoms

  1. Stay safe and keep your mouth closed (unless you are looking to supplement your diet with the bugs)
