Sept. 13 Day 2

Sept. 13 2024

Day 2

Perrysburg OH 122 miles

As expected it was a long ride today but that was a combination of being on motor scooter and following bicycle routes that put us on bike trials that we have to bounce around to stay legal.  Though today we did spend some time on trial when signs did not say no motorized vehicles.

Today was interesting from historical point of view.  The route followed the Miami Erie canal system running north this meant we passed though the town of Spencerville which was a canal town.  When the canals were the best way to go it was a great town founded in 1854.  All along the route here there were numerous small villages and some large old farm houses that grew here due to transportation.

The next town was Napoleon where we stopped for a rest, gas and quick a snack.  From there we followed the shores of Maurmee River into Perryburgs and Toledo.  Once there we toured Meggs Fort build in 1813 to defend against the lousy Canadians (Note really British because Canada did not exist until 1867 but that is Americans called them).  This fort was attacked twice by the British and repulsed twice and repulsed twice.  The fort was defended by Harrison the same guy from Tippecanoe and then became a president.

Now after dinner and exercise for shoulder I am really exhausted and ready for a rest.
