Day 6
Hamburg NY
Miles 86
Well another beautiful day sun and cool enough not to sweat but warm enough for me not to need jacket.
Our ride took along Hwy 5 from start to finish only requiring a short jog from the Hotel to a hotel. The scenery was again fantastic lot of good views of Lake Erie and also a lot of grape fields. We saw several trucks fitted out to carry grapes in large loads to juicing. plants plus some flatbeds with crates. of grapes on them. They also have bins that are towed by tractors. I always expected to see harvesting teams picking bunches of grapes but there is a harvester that does automatically. This area us just Oregon in feeling and views.
We stopped and talked to two people today. The first one at the hotel was on a Motor cycle and he was just surprised how we had gone. The second one was grape tractor driver and did not believe me when I told where we started. I then made him read our license and he said OK maybe I was not lying to hime.
Passing through the Seneca reservation I noticed a couple of things. The town had at least on big gaming center. Another smaller one looked closed. Gas was cheaper less than $2.70 per gallon and so was tobacco products. They even have their own brand.
Note that this road is starting to feel like route 66. Old gas stations and even a Giant holding a Hamburger. This same giant on route 66 can be seen holding a muffler, a gun, hot dogs and ever a wrench to fix your car. In the north part of the country I have seen him holding an axe. Funny he so versatile and comes out of the same mould,
Once at the hotel they wanted money to check in early so decided to check out places to kill time. We selected the casino a short distance away after a short search and just as we were preparing to leave the front desk person came out to talk to us. She said her manager just left and she would check us in no charges so we did that.
After sorting out gear and my exercises Dianne said she wanted to see the Casino so off we went. There she won $100 and I had a beer. Now chilling and catching up on news and doing the blog.
