If you understand hiker talk that is a zero day,  meaning we did leave hotel!  Reason yesterday was a little uncomfortable today would have been horrible and even worse.  Woke to heavy rain and it with 80% chance would continue all day.


This does not mean we accomplished nothing just that we set out to do nothing and we successfully accomplished nothing.  Well we did somethings.


  1. Had breakfast after an quite night in hotel.
  2. Watched some movies on HBO
  3. Went for walk saw Lake and Fort George on waterfront
  4. Found another Giant.  This holding an Ax.
  5. Made reservations to see a play tonight. 
  6. Bought a warmer Tee shirt for me to wear on cold days. 


Any Fort George was a British fort build in 17in 1750.  Captured by the French under Malcolm in 1755.  Recaptured in 1758 by British as a first step  in attacking on fort Ticonderoga.  Then held by British until 1775 when it captured by the Americans.  This was a staging area for US attack on Quebec.  Then it help hold the British back, but fell into British and remained in British hands until they surrendered in Sarasota when it became a US fort again.   Then in 1780 Charlton a British officer captured it and burnt it to the ground.  So this was scene of military action from early 1700 all the way to end of 1812.  Hence the name Battlefield park.

Sept 29 Day 18

  Sept 29 Day 18 Williamsport PA Miles 112 It was really chilly and wet today.   Woke to rain and delayed as long as we could to have some chance of staying dry.   As it turned out it rained several times today but only enough to make us damp not soaked through.   Tavern build in 1831 and used as army training center in civil War. The ride followed the beside the extension canal and then cut cross country crossing several Appalachian mountains or ridges.   This means we climbed more than 5 times at smoking speeds of 12 miles per hour.   This is taking a toll on the belts.   When we started we could reach 40 on flats now we struggle to make 35 even on down hills.   One downhill that went on for 21 miles. Sept 24 Day 13

  Sept 24   Day 13 Burlington VT Miles 78 Dianne said she had withdraws so after dinner we hiked to the DQ in Molane.   Molane currently is cow town with lots of feeding lots and huge piles of manure.   It used to be a mining center and I think a lumber center as well, as we did pass several old saw mills in the area.   The train station is there still but the rails are gone.   This morning was cloudy and cold but before I finished packing the bikes it became warmer so I decided to ride without jacket. About 2 hours in the clouds came back and were close to the lake and I was cold so I stop and on went the jacket.   That made the ride better! The ride today was mainly due east with little change of scenery except less horse dropping and farms looked a lot more prosperous.   The route included a ferry ride across Lake Champlain and that was fun.   Lake Champlain was first seen by Europeans by Champlain in 1609.   He arrived with his Huron...
