Day 22
Miles 90
Zaneville OH
Well woke and Dianne was still short the money she put into the slots last night so that part was not a dream.
Left in a light fog and climbed out of the Ohio River valley and during that time we had a ton of switchbacks and some exciting down hills. The area was very scenic as the road seems to follow an mountain ridge for a long ways. It must in the fracking area as there many cleared sights with oil tanks and pressure vessels for gas and injection water. To be honest it did not mess with the scenery too badly but did leave a few scars. Also passed by one strip mine area and that was. not so good looking.
One town Mooreville had General Morgans confederate Calvary pass through on the morning of July 24 1863. They stripped the town of any food or horses they find and moved on. That afternoon General Shackleford and the union arrived in pursuit of Morgan 500 troopers. They passed through as fast they could and failed to catch the confederates as were during the bridges behind them.
We also passed through Colerain a small town that was home to the Boat architect that designed the US Ironside including the USS Constitution.
Steubenville was home to Dean Martin Zainsville was Close to the. home of John Glenn. Janesville was on the national road and Zain operated a Ferry crossing. In 1812 it was State seat which moved to Columbus in 1816. Located at the junction of the Licking creek and Muskingum River. It had oil refineries, paper mills, Flour mills and in the 1840 pottery became the main industry.
Zainsville is also the home of a Y bridge.
